Land use issues such as resource protection, greenspace preservation and community development were identified by the public during the Major Investment Study (MIS) as important considerations for the Eastern Corridor. A commitment was made to acknowledge and work with transportation/land use relationships in moving forward with the Eastern Corridor project.

As a result, a comprehensive land use visioning study was conducted to identify existing and future land use issues in the area, and to come up with a "desired future picture" for the corridor. The Eastern Corridor Land Use Vision Plan, completed in April 2002 and shown here in map form, incorporates economic development, land preservation, quality of life issues and other land use priorities identified from existing community land use plans and public input.

Goals and desired outcomes identified in the visioning work are being integrated into the Eastern Corridor detailed planning process to help make the specific transportation solutions for the area respond to and support the land use (rather than doing the transportation details first).
