What is the State Route 32 Improvement Project?

The SR 32 Improvement Project will evaluate options for upgrading State Route 32 to a limited-access arterial from Eastgate Boulevard to Olive Branch-Stonelick Road. This project is expected to replace existing intersections and driveways on SR 32 with a new interchange, overpasses and service drives where needed. The project is beginning as a study, which will consider several alternatives and include public input in evaluating the options.  Click here to view the map as a pdf.

Why is this Project Necessary?

State Route 32 in this area experiences high levels of congestion and frequent crashes.  For the past several years, it has been identified in ODOT’s Highway Safety Program listing of high crash locations.  The study will evaluate various options for reducing travel delays and improving safety, while considering the impacts and benefits to the surrounding community.

Important Issues
When comparing the available alternatives for the project, including the Do Nothing alternative, several factors will be considered:

• Safety
• Traffic Operations
• Impacts and Benefits to Existing Businesses and Neighborhoods
• Maintaining Access
• Community Disruption
• Environmental Impacts – ecology, noise, air quality, cultural resources
• Economic Development
• Impacts during Construction
• Cost
