Cincinnati, OH (06/10/2002) The Eastern Corridor Project has concluded four more online opinion surveys to improve public participation in shaping transportation improvements in eastern Hamilton and western Clermont counties. Here are some notable results:
- A majority of participants (81 percent) said they are in favor of a relocation of State Route 32 over the Little Miami River connecting to an upgraded existing Ohio 32 west of I-275.
- 55 percent of participants said they would be "very likely" to use rail transit if it was available and convenient. 22 percent said they would be "somewhat likely" to use rail transit. In addition, 48 percent of respondents said the concept of using trains that run on existing tracks powered by on-board engines favorably affected their views of light rail. Only 9 percent said using this technology affected their opinion of light rail negatively.
Participants were also asked to rank the importance of several of the Eastern Corridor initiatives. Respondents found the following initiatives to be "very important" or "important":
- Considering environmental impact issues in developing transportation solutions
- Reducing traffic congestion
- Expanding options for mass transit
- Preserving greenspace
- Increasing road/highway capacity
Other questions were asked in order to gauge the best ways to share information with the public. Among the favorites were newspaper articles and e-mail updates.
