What is the current work about?
The current work involves further developing new highway capacity and rail transit components from the Tier 1 recommended plan, including the following four projects:
• Segment I - Red Bank Corridor - Consisting of roadway capacity and access improvements along Red Bank Road from I-71 to US 50 in Fairfax
• Segment II/III - Relocated SR 32 Corridor – Involving the development of a controlled access highway on new alignment from US 50 in Fairfax to just west of I-275 in Eastgate, and including a multi-modal crossing of the Little Miami River and a shared rail transit corridor (a segment of the Oasis Rail Transit)
• Segment IVa - SR 32 Eastgate – Consisting of roadway capacity improvements on SR 32 from Gleneste-Withamsville Road to Olive Branch Stonelick Road in Clermont County
• Oasis Rail Transit – New rail transit extending from the existing Riverfront Transit Center along the Cincinnati riverfront to Milford, a portion of which involves a shared corridor with relocated SR 32.
These four corridors are being developed as separate--but closely coordinated--Tier 2 NEPA studies consistent with the goals established in Tier 1 for integrating land use, economic development, and environmental stewardship.
Tier 2 involves refining alternatives, more detailed environmental and engineering studies, and final NEPA documentation that identify a preferred alternative for each of these improvement corridors. This work is being coordinated with other parts of the Eastern Corridor being developed at the local level, including expanded bus transit, bikeways and local roadway network improvements. Through this coordinated program approach, the various components of the Eastern Corridor will be brought on line incrementally over time as part of a long-term public and private investment framework.
